The Mentalist Exclusive: Amanda Righetti and Owain Yeoman to Exit in Season 6

Filed Under (Amanda News, Projects) by Janine at 6:40 am

It appears the fallout from The Mentalist‘s looming Red John reveal is extending to the show’s call sheet.

TVLine has learned exclusively that original castmembers Amanda Righetti and Owain Yeoman will be leaving the CBS procedural toward the end of Season 6 (premiering Sept. 29 at 10/9c).

The departures of colleagues and sometime-lovers Van Pelt and Rigsby will likely tie into this fall’s unmasking of Red John, a six-year-old mystery whose resolution is poised to set the show on a new course.

In a statement to TVLine, series creator Bruno Heller would “neither confirm or deny” our story, but acknowledged that The Mentalist is heading into its “most dramatic and game changing season and anything can happen.”

As teased in last week’s Ask Ausiello, one two new series regulars — one male and one female — will be introduced in early ’14, presumably to fill the eventual void left by Righetti and Yeoman. (source)

Amanda Righetti Confirmed as Latest CAPTAIN AMERICA & THE AVENGERS Cast Member

The Mentalist starlet will make her Marvel Studios’ debut as a member of S.H.I.E.L.D. in Captain America: The First Avenger, which hits theaters this Thursday.

Based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series, first published in 1963, Marvel’s The Avengers brings together the mightiest super hero characters as they all assemble together on screen for the first time. Continuing the epic big-screen adventures started in Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor, and Captain America: The First Avenger, Marvel’s The Avengers is the super hero team up of a lifetime. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster.

After yesterday’s confirmation of the first Avengers movie trailer set to hit theaters this weekend with the release of Captain America: The First Avenger, another piece of news has been revealed. Amanda Righetti, whose breakout role was as an investigator on the hits television series The Mentalist, will join the ranks of Sam Jackson, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson and Cobie Smulders as a Agent of the clandestine organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. Though neither Paramount Pictures nor Marvel Studios has released the name of the comic character she will embody on film, the current buzz has her pegged as either Carol Danvers — also known to comic fans as the superpowered heroine Ms. Marvel — or Sharon Carter, niece of Peggy Carter who is played by Hayley Atwell in Captain America and acts as Steve Rogers’ WWII partner and love interest.

Robert Downey, Jr. (Iron Man, Iron Man 2) returns as the iconic Tony Stark/Iron Man along with Chris Hemsworth (Thor) as Thor, Chris Evans (Captain America: The First Avenger) as Captain America, Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker) as Hawkeye, Mark Ruffalo (The Kids Are Alright) as Hulk, Scarlett Johansson (Iron Man 2) as Black Widow, Clark Gregg (Iron Man, Thor) as Agent Phil Coulson, and Samuel L. Jackson (Iron Man, Iron Man 2) as Nick Fury. The star studded cast of super heroes will be joined by Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother) as Agent Maria Hill of S.H.I.E.L.D., as well as Tom Hiddleston (Wallander) and Stellan Skarsgård (Angels & Demons, Mamma Mia!) who will both reprise their respective roles as Loki and Professor Erik Selvig from the upcoming Marvel Studios’ feature Thor. The Avengers is scheduled for theatrical release in the US on May 4th, 2012. (source)

In other Amanda news, there has been some buzz about a possible Friday the 13th sequel. If you haven’t seen the remake as of yet, the article at dreadcentral.com includes some spoilers about what happens to Amanda’s character. So, if you don’t want to know, then don’t click the link. :)

TheCinemaSource.com has posted a new interview with Amanda.

Interview By: Joe Drew
Only in the early stages of her career, Amanda Righetti seems to be hitting all the right notes. From her role in the hit series, The Mentalist on CBS, to starring in the new Friday the 13th, Righetti is a name we’re going to be hearing more often. In Friday the 13th she plays ‘Whitney’ the missing sister of ‘Clay,’ played by Supernatural star Jared Padalecki. Clay’s search for his sister leads him to the hallowed ground of Camp Crystal Lake. There he meets ‘Jenna’ (Danielle Panabaker) and a group of stereotypical college students, who, by the conventions of the genre are conspicuously placed for Jason to toy with like a cat. All the while our heroes struggle to survive as they elude the cold calculation of Jason’s machete. Read the rest of this entry »

The Mentalist gets full season

Yay, I’m beyond happy about this.

CBS Extends ‘The Mentalist’

Even a fake psychic could’ve seen this coming: CBS has inched closer to granting a full-season order to its freshman smash The Mentalist, ordering six additional scripts for the Simon Baker-led drama.

The move comes as The Mentalist has emerged as this season’s only surefire hit. In its first two outings, the show has won its time slot with an average 15.4 million viewers.

An official back-nine order, which would bring The Mentalist’s season 1 episode total to 22, could come as early as this week. (source)
